Chicken Hearts

Happy Monday! This weekend was pretty fantastic and I'm hoping the next couple weekends are the same and before I know it I'll be moving into my house. Saturday night we went to a Brazilian dinner hosted every weekend by a couple from Brazil who run a school for orphans, the dinner is a set price but all the proceeds go to funding the school. It was on their rooftop and they came around with the meat on the skewers (even chicken and beef hearts) and had an enormous buffet. It was more like the buffet at Thanksgiving than a buffet at an actual restaurant. Just food spread out on a table in mix matched serving dishes. The food was fantastic, the coconut water/vodka concoction was amazing, it was bring your own wine which I loved- it was just wonderful. Fresh air, everyone sitting around chatting in such an intimate setting, prayers being heard in the distance.

I was sitting there thinking what a lovely time we were having and I was reminded how much I wanted to go home almost a month ago. I was so ready to pack up and quit. I can even remember thinking, it was too hard, and I was thirty and life shouldn't be hard. I was missing mundane things about the states, things I hate when I'm there: long lines, huge parking lots, busy Targets, McDonald's, etc. But here I was eating Brazilian food on a rooftop in Dakar thousands of miles from my American comforts and I was in love. In love with our life and the opportunity to just be in that moment. No cell phone, no interruptions.. just conversation, wine, and great food.

I think maybe I can learn to love Dakar. I think I may be falling in love already...
